Accommodative Response of Open Autorefractometer with Visual Distance

Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference between the measurements in the infinite and the specific distance gaze state with an open automatic refractor.
Methods : The participants were 31 adults (22.66¡¾1.27 years old) with no abnormal binocular vision. Using an open automatic refractor (WAM-5500), the mean of refractive power was recorded by measuring the accommodative response three times while viewing at infinite distance, 6 and 3 m targets. Infinite distance fixation was measured in a space where the sky outside of a building could be viewed.
Results : The average of infinite distances was ?1.71¡¾2.11 D, and at 6 m it was measured as ?1.67¡¾2.01 D. Finally, at 3 m it was measured as ?1.58¡¾1.99 D, and when comparing the difference in each distance with respect to infinity. The difference in the mean of difference of 6m distance was +0.24D, and 3m was +0.41D, showing that there was no statistical significance ( >0.050). In addition, in the order of infinite, 6m and 3m the dynamic accommodative response of emmetropia was 0.07¡¾0.05 D, ?0.02¡¾0.35 D and ?0.04¡¾0.18 D ( =0.260), respectively. That of hyperopia showed 0.67¡¾0.09 D, 0.36¡¾0.3 D and 0.33¡¾0.3 D ( =0.86), respectively. Finally, the dynamic accommodative response at the infinite distance in myopia was ?2.86¡¾1.77 D, 6m was ?2.65¡¾1.84 D and 3m was ?2.53¡¾1.88 D ( =0.980).
Conclusion : In this study, the dynamic accommodative response was measured at infinite, 6 m and 3 m distances. When looking at infinite gaze, greater (-) refractive power was found than near, but the difference was not significant. However, further research is considered necessary as some results were observed differences that could be clinically considered.
